The Penning Board 2013-13

The Penning Board
Items of the Week
Movie: “13 Going on 30” (2004) – Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo
A 13 year old girl plays a game on her 13th birthday and wakes up the next day as a 30 year old woman.

This is just the cutest movie. J It’s funny and romantic. It definitely brightens the day.
News: “Killing of Texas district attorney, wife, seen as targeted”

“The killing of a Texas district attorney and his wife, in the same county where an assistant prosecutor was shot dead outside a courthouse in January, does not appear to be random, a local official said on Sunday.”
The above mentioned incident is thought to be linked to the “Aryan Brotherhood,” a 20,000-strong white supremacist prison gang that has been suspects for multiple deaths in several states. This gang uses several symbols for representation, including the Nazi swastika.

Book: “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” by Richard and Florence Atwater

A classic of American humor, the adventures of a house painter and his brood of high-stepping penguins have delighted children for generations.

I absolutely loved this book when I was in elementary school. It’s a really cute read. Highly recommended for children and adults alike.

What were your favorite books from childhood?

Bible Verse:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”- John 16:33

Travel Quote:
"The greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” — Bill Bryson

Song: “Let Her Go” – Passenger
I recently heard this song for the first time and it’s become my latest song obsession (which means I’ve listened to it dozens of times since its discovery). J Listen to it here.
