The Penning Board 2013-9

The Penning Board Items of the Week

Movie: "Letters to Juliet” (2010) – Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Egan

This movie is one of my absolute favorites! The story and acting is brilliant! It is a fantastic blend of history, romance and intrigue amid an international setting.

Oh beautiful thou art! I would love to travel along the winding roads of pencil thin trees and rolling hills of countryside.

Have you been to Tuscany or anywhere else in Italy? I'd love to hear about it. Please leave a comment below this post.

Interesting News: "72 is the new 30"

Life expectancy has exceeded 80 in several countries as many have made huge strides in reducing mortality rates. Life spans have increased so much over the past 100 or so years that, evolutionarily speaking, 72 is the new 30, says a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Do you think this claim is accurate or would it be more reasonable to say 50 is the new 30 or something similar?
Book: "The Rose Garden" - Susanna Kearsley

Susanna Kearsley is one of my all-time favorite authors. She is definitely in my top 5 favorites. Not only is her writing impeccable with rich detail and smooth pacing, but she continually draws me into her stories until I cannot read them fast enough!

This novel kept me locked into its tight embrace with intrigue of time travel, love and the mysterious ending. There are plenty of twists and turns that I am pretty sure even the best sleuth will not guess correctly.

Highly Recommended. I also adore her book, "The Winter Sea."

"Whatever time we have," he said, "it will be time enough."

Eva Ward returns to the only place she truly belongs, the old house on the Cornish coast, seeking happiness in memories of childhood summers. There she finds mysterious voices and hidden pathways that sweep her not only into the past, but also into the arms of a man who is not of her time.

But Eva must confront her own ghosts, as well as those of long ago. As she begins to question her place in the present, she comes to realize that she too must decide where she really belongs.

From Susanna Kearsley, author of the New York Times bestseller The Winter Sea and a voice acclaimed by fans of Gabaldon, du Maurier, and Niffenegger alike, The Rose Garden is a haunting exploration of love, family, the true meaning of home, and the ties that bind us together.

Bible Verse: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:8-9

Song: "Lucky"- Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat

Lovely song by two very talented artists. A wistful, yet upbeat tune of two lovers being seperated and looking forward to meeting again. The video is travel-oriented with some pretty locales, so check it out here
